(More customer reviews)Nice that it came pre-oiled from the factory (listening K&N?), and it does only cost 2-2.5X what a paper filter costs. I did notice a change in exhaust noise as well (someone else reported this) but I don't think either of us intends that to be a negative; it's just an observation.

Be careful when you take the car in for an oil change; some shops will toss your filter for a paper replacement without asking.

The spray bottle offers much better coverage with less waste, and less effort from the regular size finger pump. And I have always found that the cleaner runs out way before the oil of the same size. Also I clean these filters more often, and it really helps with overall milage. Letting a filter go 50k (K&N statement) before you clean it is just CRAZY! Clean it every 10-15k and you will find your car runs better, and you have less gunk on you throttle body that causes poor mileage.

(More customer reviews)I've never used any other type of oil filter wrench or strap but this tool worked for me when I couldn't twist off an oil filter by hand.It uses a 3/8" drive but it doesn't "snap" onto the wrench so it can fall off easily.As long as you are careful, you shouldn't have a problem and it will save you a lot of time when changing your oil filter.

The prongs can be adjusted by holding onto the "base" and turning the socket with a wrench.The prongs rotate around the base depending on the direction you turn.The way it works is that at the widest position, turning in either direction will cause the prongs to "close in" on a certain direction.That way, as long as you have the prongs closing in on the proper direction, when you are trying to remove an oil filter, it will grip harder as you turn counter-clockwise.If you have the prongs closing in on the wrong direction, then turning counter-clockwise will actually widen the prongs.

When I took the first one off, I noticed the metal was incredibly thin, almost the thinness of a soda can. If I hadn't stopped and seen the smoke coming out from under my car (oil on manifold), I might have ceased the engine.

Well, I figured maybe I'd nicked the filter when putting it on. So when I put the next one on, I was extra careful not to scratch or nick the can in any way. DIdn't matter. Same result.

Cheap-o filter ... no wonder nobody likes Fram filters.

Hopkins FloTool 10619 Nylon Strap Wrench Review

(More customer reviews)I should have known, this thing cannot work, but I bought it anyway.
The wrench is on the side of the filter, so when you turn, it only compresses the filter more, to the point of deforming it.
So the torque applied to the wrench is only marginally transfered to the filter itself, because the filter's axle and the wrench's are not aligned.

The only good thing about it is that once the oil filter has been completely deformed, it is much easier to untie it with pliers.

FRAM PPA4309 Air Hog Panel Filter Review

(More customer reviews)The fram air hog is suppose to do the job of 20 traditional air filters over its lifetime.The filter is made of high quality cotton fiber and metal screen construction.However, I did not see any noticeable performance difference in my Nissan Pathfinder from using this over traditional filters, but knowing I can reuse it sure helps puts some money back into the wallet.Keep in mind cleaning this air filter is not as simple as wash and dry.You are required to use aFram Air Filter cleaning kit, which is additional cost.Fram's website has a $20 rebate towards a air hog filter that expires 12/2008.

According to fram's website, you must:

Directions for Use:
A. Cleaning -
When cleaning your FRAM? AirHog(tm) filter, NEVER use gasoline, cleaning solvents, steam, caustic solutions or strong detergents. Do NOT use brush or tools to facilitate cleaning. NEVER spray filter with compressed air or high-pressure water. Always use slow flowing, cool water to rinse filter. Failure to follow these safeguards may result in damage to the filter media.

1) Carefully remove the filter from the filter housing. Inspect and clean filter housing prior to re-installing the filter.

2) Tap the filter against a flat surface to remove any loose or caked-on dirt. Take care not to contaminate the clean side of the filter element.

3) Place filter on a flat work surface and spray both sides of the filter liberally with FRAM(tm) AirHog(tm) Air Filter Cleaner. Allow the solution to soak into the filter media for at least 10 minutes.

4) Rinse the filter using cool. low-pressure tap water. Rinse from the clean side.

B. Drying -
Allow filter to completely dry naturally. NEVER use compressed air, heat or open flames. Heat may cause the filter media to shrink. Failure to follow these safeguards may result in damage to the filter media. It is very important that the filter media is dry prior to re-oiling.

C. Oiling -
When oiling use only FRAM? AirHog(tm) Air Filter Oil. NEVER use filter without oil. The oil is needed to remove contaminants. Do NOT over oil filter. Failure to follow these safeguards may result in damage to the vehicle.

1) Before applying FRAM? AirHog(tm) Air Filter Oil, inspect the filter to ensure that it is clean and dry. If necessary, a second cleaning may be required.

2) Sparingly apply filter oil to each pleat. Spray each pleat only once. You will be able to see where the oil has been applied because the filter media color will change to FRAM(tm) orange. Only a light covering of oil should be applied, do NOT saturate the media.

3) Allow the oil to soak into the filter for 20 minutes. If after 20 minutes any white spots remain, lightly re-apply oil in white areas only.

4) Re-install the filter into the clean filter housing/airbox. Ensure that the sealing surfaces are properly seated

In conclusion, this is a high quality product at a reasonable price that I am recommending.It is especially cheap with the current promotion running.
