(More customer reviews)This is a great oil filter wrench. It fits almost all passenger car filters and most smaller trucks. You have to have a 3/8" drive ratchet to use with it. You may need a ratchet extension as well, depending on your oil filter location.

The two pieces that grip the filter are connected with a spring. You pull them apart with your hands, put the wrench on the filter and the spring will pull the pieces into the filter. Hook up your ratchet and loosen, the wrench bites into the filter right away. Easy.

This wrench is for filter removal only. ALWAYS TIGHTEN NEW OIL FILTER BY HAND. NEVER TIGHTEN WITH A WRENCH.

Yes I would duplicate this order again.

The price beat all local prices on this item and all Internet Prices I searched so needless to say I made the purchase along with a few other items needed and related. The free shipping was included with the purchase of these additional items and this review will be cut and pasted to those items as they are reviewed along with one added piece of information on the special socket for the oil cap removal review.

This socket is made in the USA and designed especially for removing the oil filter cap on HHR Chevrolet 2.2 and 2.4 Ecotec 4 Cylinder engines and probably will work on many other applications as the same engine is used in Saturns and Cobalts as well as other General Motors Vehicles too.

It is necessary to clear the Intake Manifold and be able to fit the hex nut on the plastic top of the Oil Filter Housing Cap.

It is 3/8" drive and steel and will last a lifetime as it never touches metal during its use and is worth its weight in Gold when trying to do the job without it.Regular sockets don't fit on the HHR and there is no room for large wrenches which have to be 1 1/4" to fit the cap nut so often pliers are substituted and this can crack the plastic nut or cut it or even break it because pressure has to be applied to the pliers in order for it to grip the cap.

Do yourself a favor if you plan to service your own HHR etc. buy this socket and save time and accidents and possibly even engine damage due to oil leaks from a cracked oil filter housing cap.

This socket and a long 3/8" drive extension and a ratchet will be all you need for the filter removal and you won't be sorry you bought it, I know I am not.

As noted on the socket it is not meant for use with and impact wrench,hand wrench use only which is most commonly what you would be doing anyway in the first place for this procedure.

I was surprised when I went to remove the first filter, after about 5000 miles and found it had "come unglued"...figured it was a fluke, used the second filter...decided about 2 weeks later to check it. It had come apart also. Naturally, the 3rd filter went right to the trash, and I bought the Mobil 1 filter M1C-151.
I am using Mobil 1 oil 0-30wt. I'm guessing the K&N filter isn't meant for the synthetic oil?

Lisle 63250 Wide Range Filter Wrench Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this item based on the recommendation of another review...spot on for its performance and "deep" enough to get a good grip. In my situation, a JD 110 tractor I needed to replace a fuel filter that is similar to an oil filter...very confined space and no room to work a strap wrench...a very poor design on JD's part...couldn't find a cup-type wrench for the odd size...I tried a 3-leg cheapie wrench from an auto parts store...piece of junk and tossed it...this Lisle tool works perfectly...as the other reviewer stated, the more you work it the tighter it grips the filter...sure enough it started to move and I was able to change the filter...in my application, due to space limitations very difficult to hand tighten, so I wish it could be used in reverse to snug up the filter but this is not what the design is intended for...OK on that.

(More customer reviews)Filter cartridge on Toyota 3.5liter 6cyl engine requires a cap wrench to replace the oil filter.I have two cars with this engine ('08 Toyota Avalon & '08 Toyota RAV4) and I have gone thru 4 locally purchased cap wrenches to do 7 oil changes.Some failed because the poorly spot-welded rachet wrench attachment shears off, and others had a problem where the socket cup slips because it is a little bit too big for the filter cartridge.This new socket wrench is tight on the cartridge and all connections are very solid - it's a good quality tool and I highly recommend it.Don't waste your time and money getting any of those other cheap Chinese-made sockets at local auto parts stores.

This socket also fits the BMW 36mm oil filter and works well. This item is sturdy but I would agree that I is not impact wrench sturdy.
If your looking for a all purpose socket them this is not for you.

K&N HP-7013 Oil Filter Review

(More customer reviews)K&N are known for making fortified oil filters, but I didn't think there was much they could do to improve the pleated paper insert that goes into the permanent metal oil filter housing on my 4 cyl. Mazda 6.

Yet, the first improvement I noticed were the end caps that hold the pleats in place.The Mazda factory filter, and all aftermarket filters I have tried so far, have rubber discs that are glued to the edges of the pleats.

K&N have taken a plastic and dipped both ends of the pleats, embedding the paper into both end caps. The plastic is pliable and contains a bead for a good seal. All other filters use a disc of mesh around the center hole on both ends.

I don't have the means to perform micron analysis to determine how much or how little dirt gets through the filter. But I will be able to tell come next oil change whether this filter has fractured and collapsed along the paper folds, as I have noticed with other brands.

K&N include both O-rings, as do all other suppliers of this filter.I do not see any particular quality difference in these components.

Will update in about 2,000 miles.

Using Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-20, combinaton of high-speed and in-town traffic.
