I have this unit and am very pleased with it. The big 6 plus hp. motor pulling into the little 10 gallon tank make this the "hot rod" of portable vacuum units (as far as I am aware). I don't know of anycompetitive unit that will move 185 cfm of air.I bought this unit atabout the same time I placed a new 650 cfm dust collector in service.Myobjective was to get a portable unit with enough muscle to be used in lieuof the larger dust collector for brief periods. The Shop-Vac 925-45-10does this admirably. It pulls from my table saw, 6" jointer or12" planer - not as well as my dust collector, but very respectably, nonetheless.I rated this unit only four stars because the motor is notserviceable. When a Shop-Vac motor burns out, our local factory authorizedrepair facility recommends trashing the entire unit and starting overagain! Baloney! Why do I want to throw away a perfectly good stainlesstank, dolly system and attachments? Before I settled on this unit, Ilooked seriously at the DeWalt models; I like their quiet operation andserviceable motors, but DeWalt doesn't publish a cfm spec. on their unitsand when I sent a message of inquiry - stating what I hoped to be able todo with the machine - I was politely ignored. So much for a sale that theymight have had!Noise attenuation is another factor that's important to meand this model of Shop-Vac is at least respectable in this regard. Manymfgrs. still market older model designs with screaming motors; these arenot acceptable to me at any price! The foregoing details the reasons whyI'm a happy owner of a Shop-Vac 925-45-10. This is my fourth shop vacuumunit; I'm something of a "neatnik" and have worn out three othermachines.Factoring in that experience, as well, I believe it's anoutstanding machine for the money, and within the reservations I'vedescribed, gladly recommend it to anyone.

HAYNES MANUAL KAW ZX7R/ZX9R 94-04 M3721 Review

HAYNES MANUAL KAW ZX7R/ZX9R 94-04 M3721
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good: This book is step-by-step and offers a lot of practical tips for beginners. It includes a lot of close-up photo's to illustrate the steps.
The bad: The tutorial photo's are in black and white and often there are no photos of the hardest steps.

The first things you run into when it comes to maintenance of motorcycles is 'wear and tear' parts, like chains and dashboard lights, that sooner or later will break down, no matter how careful you are. Before you can renew the dashboard lights, you have to unmount the under and upper fairing and more. Afterwards you'll of course have to mount it again. This is not something a rookie like me can do in an hour or so.

It would be nice if you could buy the lights at forehand, so you don't have the fairing parts lying around your garage while you are waiting for the replacement lights (or leds) to be delivered. Unfortunately, the exact types and number(s) of such lights are not mentioned in this book. This is unfortunate, since that is exactly the kind of information you want to look up in a book like this.

Another example: When changing the oil filter, the book advises to change an O-ring of a tube that passes oil, near the filter. It doesn't mention any measurements, type or size of that O-ring. Not only does this force you to break up and go to the hardware store for just one O-ring, it also makes it hard to find the exact size of O-ring, since there are countless types. When you mount the wrong type, you later on will have to unmount the left under fairing and oil tube again, just to fix this one little ring.

I think omitting these details is a missed opportunity and an important downside to this book. It's the only choice you have, so for a beginner it's still better than nothing, but for someone experienced with other motorcycles, it's less interesting.

Kipor IG1000 1000 Watt Inverter Generator Review

Kipor IG1000 1000 Watt Inverter Generator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Mine mysteriously shuts off on me..runs for about 15 mins, then just stops and won't restart unless it sits..fiddled with the oil, the air-cleaner, cleaned the fuel-filter, gapped the spark plug..it runs smoother for 15 mins now, but still shuts off!Had to buy another one, can't figure it out..
Also, it's not as quiet as the Honda of the same size..it is significantly louder for the first hour or so..
Had it for one year and one months, used once per week, a total of probably 300 to 400 hours..if you get lucky and get one without this mystery-problem, I would say it's an okay unit.

New model IG1000 (used to be KGE1000Ti) Rated Frequency (Hz): 60; Rated Voltage (V): 120; Rated Current (A): 7.5; Rated Rotation Speed (rpm): 5500; Rated Output Power (W): 900; Max. Output Power (W): 1050; DC Output: 12V-8.3A; Electric Circuit Breaker: Available; Phase Numbers: Single phase; Fuel Tank Capacity (L): 2.6; Rated Continuous Running Time (hr): 4.2 to 16; Noise Level [dB(A)/7m] (Zero Load): 54 ; Noise Level [dB(A)/7m] (Full Load): 59; EPA Certified Engine - 55cc OHC, single cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled, low emission; Sinemaster digital inverter generators are approximately 50% smaller and lighter than traditional generators because the alternator is directly connected to the engine, and the flywheel is therefore eliminated. The voltage is constantly adjusted to maintain at 120V by the computer inverter module. The light weight design makes them ideal for transportation.Sinemaster digital generators are equipped with the unique smart-throttle. It can automatically regulate the engine speed according to the load, so the fuel consumption of digital generator sets is 20%-40% lower than traditional sets, so the running time is therefore much longer as well. The noise level is further reduced at lower running speeds. Sinemaster digital inverter generators have a new two-tiered noise dampening system, so the noise emitted by these generators is 6-9 dB less than traditional generators. This translates to 4 to 8 times quieter than conventional generators. A 3 dB drop in noise level represents the half amount on the actual noise. This meets the new noise ordinances that some state and national parks have adopted. 2 years warranty, we have a repair center and stock most of the parts.

compact, very strong magnets in motor, can be felt outside case with steel bar, compressor seems like it is well made, even being an offshore import. i've had these two pumps in service for a month and they sound good and pumps well, will update in another 6 months if still no problem.
looks like this compressor could be mounted out in the elements as long as the intake port was piped to a clean location, i typically pipe these to the truck cab so it takes in cleaner and already partially dehumidized ( air conditioned) air.

Item was easy to install. Comes with MOST of the needed hardware (plus some extra).I did have to purchase some extra hoses since the hose that came with it was not long enough.I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that I needed some more hose.

Tip:There is not "input" and "output" connection. They can be used interchangeably.I was able to confirm this with the company. If you decide to call the company - be prepared for a VERY long hold time.I was on hold for over an hour.

Product Description:
Adding this B&M SuperCooler keeps the ATF and transmission cooler, and keeping a vehicle's transmission cool is essential for dependability, especially in performance applications. The unit is designed to be very efficient for its size and weight, to cool much better than an ordinary 'fin and tube' cooler, and to reduce the risk of lube system failure. Using fluxless, oven brazed construction for vibration resistance, it is built out of lightweight aluminum alloy and features a revolutionary 'stacked plate' design with multiple oil flow paths. The unit monitors resistance to flow by allowing a controlled amount of ATF to pass through a self-regulating orifice. Controlled by viscosity, thicker ATF is returned directly to lube through two bypass openings in the stacked plate core, while thinner ATF is directed through the core to cool as operating temperatures increase.

Generac 5778 XG4000 5,000 Watt 220cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit Review

Generac 5778 XG4000 5,000 Watt 220cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit
Average Reviews:

First of all I would like to say that I love this Generator.I bought mine from a local dealer, after reading about this new model from a popular mechanics article and award, but I think my review may be useful to others here. The setup of the generator is very easy and only took me two minutes.Generac includes your first maintenance kit with the generator (this comes in handy, I will explain later.)I got my generator about a two weeks before Wisconsin (where I live) got hit with a huge blizzard 24" of snow and 40mph winds with -5 F temps. We lost power for almost 24 hours - my wife, who was very annoyed that I bought this unit just before the holidays, changed her tune greatly when our house was the only one on the block with heat and christmas lights running. The Generator performed great the entire time.Since Generac includes the maintenance kit I didn't have to run aroud trying to figure out where to buy the oil filter as the unit needs to have oil and filter changed after the first 30 hours (break in period.)

Now to the features, this model surges to 5000 watts and is very compact and sturdy. The best feature is the built in power meter that allows you to know how loaded the generator is without having to add up the watts. Also, the power quality is very good with this unit and I had no problem running my computer or LCD tv throughout the storm. The noise level, which I expected to be very loud, was not bad at all.I had no problem standing next to the unit while talking to all my neighbors about why I still had power.

I am not too concerned about reliability because I bought a Generac because my father has had an older model portable for 13 years and my Uncle has had the same Generac Portable for almost 30!!Also, I have a Pressure washer with a Generac engine on it for 12 years and have never had a problem (lots of use too.)Plus, the unit comes with a two year warranty

I recently ordered this kit from the Outdoor Store. It is apparently an official Generac kit, but it included the wrong spark plugs forthe 990 engine, according to the manual and Generac's site. The kit included RC14YC plugs used on the smaller engines, not the required RC12YC. I could not determine the reason for this, but eventually Outdoor Store did send me a set of the correct spark plugs without charge. It's strange that an OEM product would be packaged incorrectly, and it would help if the actual parts included were listed here in the product description.

Sportsman GEN154 2,000 Watt 80cc 4-Stroke Portable Generator Review

Sportsman GEN154 2,000 Watt 80cc 4-Stroke Portable Generator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased one of these about five months ago from a popular online seller for $199.99 with free S&H.If you already own, or you are considering buying this gen set, you should read this.If you have experienced some of the same problems, maybe this info will be helpful.I am a retired Plant Engineer from a major world class manufacturer in the US and have 40+ years of experience with machinery and equipment so I know a lot about equipment manufacturing and repair.I really like the concept and idea of this gen set because its small, light, and it really does run about 9 hours (50% load) on a tank (1.3 gal.) of fuel but it does have its problems.I can sum up the problems I've had in two words, Quality Control!I can't speak for all the units out there, only mine. From what I have been able to gather from my research, there are several generations of this generator manufactured to date.I believe mine is somewhere in the middle with a manufacture date of Oct. 2007, so some, or all, of these issues may have been addressed with the newer ones.I will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly, as I experienced it.I have two other generators that I use for emergency power but I needed something small, light, and more fuel efficient to use at the fish camp and hunting lease.I needed only about 1100 watts for lights, and to keep the RV batteries charged, so this one seemed the perfect match. Most people buy the largest generator they can get not realizing that they have to move, store, and feed the hungry beast. When I purchased this one, gas was over $4.00 a gallon so it was senseless to use a larger one for my needs and waste precious fuel. When I took it out of the box I liked what I saw.I filled it with oil and gas and started it as per the manual.I was disappointed that it took 7 or 8 healthy pulls to finally start it.Even though it was new it should start easier and quicker when you use the choke. After letting it run for 5 minutes or so I put it under a 1000 watt resistive load.It worked fine but I noticed a substantial amount of oil under the engine.Very disappointed, I shut it down and checked for any loose nuts, screws, oil plug, etc., but could not determine from where the oil was leaking. It continued to leak even though it wasn't running so I knew it was a below oil level leak.I drained the oil/gas and called the seller expecting to exchange it.Of course they recommended that I follow the manual and call the mfg. which I had already done.On the third day of calling the seller and demanding to talk to a supervisor, and demanding an exchange for one that functioned properly without leaking oil, he finally told me they were out of stock and didn't know when they would be restocked and offered a refund of the full purchase price.I took his offer and ask him how he wanted me to handle the return S&H.His reply surprised me.They didn't want it back and he asked me if I would dispose of it.Sure I would!I think he had an idea what the problem was and it wasn't worth it for them to pay return S&H, repair cost, and then having to sell it as refurbished for a reduced price.I was sure that with a little time I could determine the cause of the leak and possibly fix the problem.I was unable to see from where the oil was leaking without removing the generator from the frame so that's what I did.It appeared that the oil was coming from under the front motor mount so I removed both motor mounts.I still couldn't tell exactly where the oil was coming from.I cleaned the bottom of the motor and then filled it with transmission fluid (do not run it like this) knowing the red color would be easier to detect. It worked! The oil was coming from a "casted in hole" that could be used for an oil drain in other applications.Manufacturers generally do this a lot so they can use their product for different applications and mounting configurations. They just don't drill the unused casted hole all the way through. The problem was that in the bottom of the hole the aluminum was so thin that there was porosity in the aluminum casting. The oil was leaking right through the casting bottom even though no flaw was visible. An easy fix for anyone who knows their way around tools and procedures.I had to find the proper size tap and put threads in the casted hole as the mfg. would have done for a bottom oil drain. You must use a flush mount plug for this because the front motor mount fits against the bottom of the motor casting.I also used sealant because I knew I would never need to remove it.I filled it with oil and major problem solved! Now for the hard starting issue. You must be really careful with this one because the recoil starter cage is plastic.I really wish they would have spent a few more cents and made it of metal. The manual will tell you not to pull the starter rope all the way out. This is because you will pull the plastic recoil starter housing right off the motor. If you are a big person with long arms this will be a challenge.I've read many complaints where this has happened. There is a seller on ebay that has sold many of these for parts/repair, and all are missing the recoil starter. No doubt broken by over pulling the starter rope.Remember, it takes several quick, healthy pulls to start this thing. It feels to me like the compression should be a little higher so I pulled the valve cover to check the valve clearance. It was correct but I was surprised at how weak the valve springs are and I suspect the valves are not seating 100% on this one. This would account for being hard to start and lack of power which I will address later.I removed the spark plug and checked the gap.Too close!Only .020" which would result in a reduced spark.Should be around 0.030".I gapped the plug and tried it again. Not much improvement but I really didn't like the cheap plug that came with it so I went to the auto parts store and purchased a quality branded plug. This helped greatly! It starts with about half the pulls as before.Although it still doesn't start as easily as it should, this was a big improvement. Now for the load test. The mfg. description claims 1500 watts running load but that is a stretch for this one.No load voltage is 109 volts = OK.With 500 watts resistive load, it went to about 120 volts = very good. With 1000 watts resistive load, it was about 117 volts = perfect! When I added another 500 watts for a total of 1500 watts the engine strained just to keep running and the voltage dropped to 98 - 99 volts = too low.I reduced the resistive load to 1350 watts and the voltage came back up to about 109 volts = OK.It's only fair to say that other units that are running properly just might run at the claimed 1500 watts. As I stated above, I suspect the valves may not be seating 100% on this one which would account for the strain the little engine was in at 1500 watts.Anyway, this is all that I need so it works for me.Don't bother with the 92+ octane gas as the manual recommends.I tested 87 octane gas and 93 octane gas and could tell no difference, with or without a load, in the performance or voltage. At about 100 hours the sheet metal shield on the muffler fell off leaving three ?" holes in the muffler where the shield was spot welded to the muffler. Not a big problem but a little more noise. For me the shield is not necessary anyway. The muffler is tucked well inside the frame and you would really have to be trying to get burned by it.If the additional noise bothers you just do what I did.Go back to the auto parts store and buy some muffler patch putty.Just smear it over the small holes and let it cure as per instructions. It can be sanded and painted with high temp. paint after it cures if you want. After about four months the fuel line developed a crack and started leaking.I replaced it with quality 3/16" fuel line and added an in-line filter.I switched to full synthetic oil after about 30 hours of operation so the engine should last a long time. One other note; once I put it under a 1000+ watt load the engine started working harder and developed more vibration. If the generator is setting on a smooth surface, it will start walking away caused by the added vibration. The cheap, clip-on vibration pads just don't work.Cut a piece of old carpet padding (18" X 18") and set the generator on it.I've put about 200 hours on this little unit and it still runs fine. All in all, after about $25.00 for parts/supplies, and eight hours of troubleshooting and labor, I have exactly what I want and I'm happy with it now.I believe it will now run reliably for many years of moderate use.I'm sorry this is a bit long but I hope this has helped someone.

PowerMax XP4400E 4,400 Watt 6.5 HP OHV Gas Powered Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric Start (CARB Compliant)

We live in Southern Louisiana, smack-dab in the middle of hurricane alley, and decided to purchase a backup generator to deal with power outages in the event of an emergency.I wanted sufficient power capacity to run our refrigerator, a small portable AC, a few lights, a small TV, charge our cell-phones, and occasionally charge laptop batteries. We figured that around 3000 continuous watts and 4000 surge watts would be sufficient for our needs.

There are several generators sold by the hardware chains (Lowe's, Home Depot) that fit this description, but they're priced around $600 - $700.After some research on the internet, we decided that the PowerMax XP4400 would match our needs, and suit our budget.Just before purchasing it, on an impulse I decided to get the model with the battery powered electric starter, instead of the one that has a rip-cord.Our purchase price (on eBay - from MaxTool - the same company selling them on Amazon) was $469.99, including a cover for the generator, and shipping.

The generator was shipped Fedex Ground and took about a week to arrive. The external cardboard box showed signs of rough handling during transportation, but the generator was well packed in foam, and not damaged during shipping. The whole box weighs about 130 lbs, and it helped me considerably that the Fedex driver wheeled it right into our garage. Unpacking took about 20 minutes. There are a couple of shipping braces that support the engine during shipment that take a little while to remove.

The first thing I did was to flip the generator upside-down on a mat to install the wheel-kit.There are tools provided with the generator to get the wheels and handles on.As shipped, the tires were sufficiently inflated to bear the weight of the generator.

After flipping the generator right way up again, I filled it with SAE30 oil. We live in a relatively warm climate, so I chose 10W30. If you use generator oil, make sure you chose oil made for a four-stroke engine. The oil-fill tube is awkwardly placed - I have a funnel with a tube at the end out it, and found that I had to use it to avoid spilling oil.It takes about 20 oz of oil. To condition the engine, I would suggest changing the oil after 6 hours of run-time, then twice after 8 hours, and every 20 - 30 hours beyond that.

After filling it with gas (there is a mesh fuel-filter underneath the gas cap, I turned the fuel valve on, and started the generator. The engine turned right away, but wouldn't start. This turned out to be an error on my part - it dark, and what I thought was the fully-off position for the choke was instead the fully-on position. After moving the choke to the correct position(fully-off), the engine started up.It is pretty smoky and sputters until the choke is opened. After that it runs very smoothly, with no visible smoke in the exhaust.I don't know what the noise level is, but it is sufficiently low that it doesn't bother me when the generator is running outside the house, and I am on the inside.

The control panel has two 120V outlets (20 Amp), and one 30 Amp outlet that is switchable between 120V and 240V.There is also a 12V outlet to charge a car battery. There is a circuit breaker and a voltmeter.During my initial tests, between 60 watts and 2400 watts of load the voltage stayed at 115 volts, and didn't drop.I haven't tested higher loads yet.

So far, we are quite satisfied. The PowerMax XP4400E is built well, works well, and is less polluting that more expensive Honda, Subaru, and Yamaha powered units sold at the hardware chains.

And a little tip - for any small engine that is run infrequently.Make sure you mix the fuel with some anti-oxidant such as Stabil before putting it in the tank. Gas mixed with anti-oxidant should last for about one year.

Six month update (August 2009) - the generator still works like a champ. Some of the bolts worked themselves loose through the vibrations, so I've tightened them.No other major problems.

Eighteen month update (September 2010) - no problems yet. But I finally got around to installing a transfer switch to connect the generator to the main breaker panel in our house. I recommend this highly - it is far better than running cords all over the place, or back-feeding the main panel, which is illegal and very dangerous for linesman working on the utility company's lines. Reliance Controls makes a pre-wired six-circuit transfer switch (31406/30406) that is perfect for this generator and is available from Amazon. Took me about 3 hours to install, 2 of which were spent flush-mounting it in the drywall.

Unit was very easy to put together (wheels and handles). Connected the battery lead, put in oil, gas and it started right up. Battery was charged from the factory. It does come with a AC charger for the battery that plugs into the front of the generator panel. I wish it was a trickle charger but it said to only leave it plugged in for max of 48 hours. It does have a pull start backup.

Bought it in combo with the GenTran 3028K 30 Amp 8-Circuit Transfer Switch/Power on Amazon. The manual transfer switch kit came with 25ft generator cord, plugs and everything I needed to connect to my load center. I can run 10 circuits and almost everything in my house except the AC. Ran it for about 8 hours with partial load on one tank of gas.

Its compact frame--33.5 x 26.5 x 27.5 inches (LxWxH)--is fitted with never-flat wheels and locking fold-down handles, so it can easily accompany you wherever you go. And with its hardened steel-tube cradle, this rugged generator holds up well for frequent travel, allowing you to look forward to years of operation. Thanks to its versatile design, the 7,000-Watt Generator with Electric Start adds comfort and possibility to any situation. Use it to keep your family safe and well-equipped through unexpected blackouts, add some fun and luxury to a camping trip, or make construction jobs faster and easier.
A Low-Maintenance, High-Performance OHVI Engine
Designed specifically for generators, the 7,000-Watt Generator with Electric Start's heavy-duty 410-cc OHVI (overhead valve industrial) engine boasts host of features. An exclusive X-Torq governor maximizes the engine's performance to keep it running without stalls. And so engine components continue moving smoothly, a pressurized lubrication system sends oil directly to critical areas.
Thanks to this full-pressure lubrication system, the engine can employ an automotive-grade, spin-on oil filter that sifts out dirt and other unwanted substances. The oil filter works alongside a dual-element air filter. Together, the two keep engine performance at a maximum and maintenance at a minimum.
Plus, this generator's sturdy, eight-gallon steel tank ensures a full 11 hours of operation at a 50-percent load, letting you relax for hours of use. And with the tank's built-in fuel gauge, you can monitor fuel levels at a glance. Generac even provides you with your first supply of oil.
Plenty of Wattage to Run a Full Range of Appliances
The 7,000-Watt Generator with Electric Start supplies 7,000 output watts and 8,750 maximum watts (for start-up of devices). It has an A/C voltage of 120/240 and a frequency of 60 hertz.
For unexpected blackouts, this is enough wattage to run home appliances such as security systems, computers, and electric stoves, as well as window A/C units and sump pumps. For construction and landscaping applications, it's enough to support large devices such as lawn mowers, belt sanders, and table saws. And for camping and outdoor events, it can run portable stereos, outdoor lights, and electric grills.
(Note: All appliances should be checked for actual wattage ratings.)
Safe, Quiet Operation with Overload-Protected Outlets
If security and quiet operation are important to you in a generator, then the 7,000-Watt Generator with Electric Start is an ideal choice. Its four 120-volt outlets and single 120/240-volt 30 Amp twist lock outlet are circuit-breaker protected, guarding against power overloads and allowing the generator to smoothly send power to your appliances. And the low-tone muffler means the generator runs at a comfortable noise level that easily blends into the background.
This generator is backed by a two-year limited warranty.
